BARACK OBAMA AND DAVID CAMERON - MEN OF THE PEOPLE

By Richard Parker

Barack and David Men of the People

Across the pond Barack Obama has got everyone excited as the new hope for the working man. But people seem to forget that we've got our very own Obama here in the UK. His name is David Cameron.

Martin Luther King Jnr, Malcom X, Jesse Jackson, David Cameron - inspirational Black leaders. People that the world needs. While America might yet see their first black president in the shape of Barack Obama, the UK has been blessed with David Cameron, a man who could quite possibly become the UK's first black prime minister. Dave and Barry are peas in a pod, brothers in arms. If there's one thing they're going to do, it's change things.

If you're sick of being told what to do by privileged white guys who are completely out of touch with your life and times - if you really want to stick it to the man - it's all about getting out and voting for Barack Obama and David Cameron. Now, being from completely different countries means that these two aren't in direct competition, but maybe they should be.

Think about it. With all of the shit that's going on the world today, we could all probably benefit from a compassionate, understanding leader - someone to unite the people, the races, the religions... someone who can be all things to all men and women. Someone with a genuine concern for the correct issues and someone that we can all get behind. And it might as well be one of these two.

Let's see how Barack and David would shape up against each other on key issues. What would the world be like if it was run by a Powerful Black Man?

CLASS

Dave

You can't call David Cameron elitist. If he ruled the planet, he'd probably have a whole department set up as the ministry of 'just kicking back and chilling out' and you could just pop in and watch a DVD. He'd have a scheme to send his mates from the grime scene in London to Eton so that he could employ them as aides. Dave is down with the working class. He fucking loves poor people. He can't get enough of them.

Barack

Barack says that he's very aware that if he had grown up in a poor community that he might have taken 'wrong turns' and ended up in jail. He says that he's mindful of that. That's all very well, but Dave is actually from the school of hard knocks. He can relate because he's been there. Barack grew up in Hawaii and Indonesia – that's paradise compared to the urban wasteland of Newbury.

DRUGS

Dave

David Cameron would obviously legalise weed in a heartbeat. He's not got this irrational fear of the occasional joint like the idiots in the home office right now. If Dave ran tings, there'd be all of these dutch-style weed cafés in London, people'd all be sitting al-fresco and getting lean and Dave would go past on his bicycle and stop for a quick zoot with you. Dave is exactly the kind of guy to be really, really generous with his shit, too.

Barack

Barack used to like the odd spliff when he was a teenager and also wasn't adverse to 'maybe a little blow'. Cocaine is horrid shit if you ask me, so he loses points if he's going to bring that around here. He probably wouldn't though. Obama's been clean for a long time, and he managed to stay off the smack when he went off the rails as a kid so fair enough. I doubt we'd see such a liberal approach to drugs from Bazza as we would with Dave.

CRIME /VIOLENCE

Dave

David's idea to hug a hoodie might not have met with widespread acceptance but we know that he's onto something. When you come from a rough background, you understand how to deal with criminals. If you commit a crime in David's new world he'll get you round to his for a round of Halo 3 or something and you can chat about what's got you so pissed off. Either that or he'll stamp out crime by himself, he's probably the closest thing to a real-life batman that we've got.

Barack

Barry might have some good ideas on how to re-integrate ex-offenders back into society, he might be instrumental in making the police and courts more accountable, fairer and more transparent. He also might have some really sensible views on backing off on capital punishment, since innocent people keep getting executed. But at the end of the day, he's not quite as 'with it' as Dave, is he?

It should be down to the people to decide which of these men is to take human kind forward into a new era of peace and harmony. And if we're not quite ready for one of these mavericks to take over perhaps we could start with someone more old school. Like Boris Johnson! He's hilarious! He's got such funny blonde hair and he says such silly stuff. After we all vote him in to run London, we should probably vote him in as ultimate ruler of the global community. Wouldn't that be so wacky?

  • everything you have written may be sensible to you.....but I wonder have you ever taken a walk on the other side...start with the name conservative - holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion. i dislike politics at all levels,NOT interested in getting into a political fistfight and cameron and the conservatives really aren\'t helping me love the subject any better. Since it is all about airing opinions and views , lets just say, in my world, cameron is like Baron Silas Greenback which would make me an urbanised Dangermouse or better yet Penfold.
